All this talk about border security from the US government is not surprising. Nations have always prioritized securing its borders from the neighboring 'others.' It's the basis of what makes a nation particular. How can a nation have citizens if it has no borders? If a nation cannot account for its citizens, how can it organize a legal structure or implement a tax?

It can't. But I couldn't care less about that.

Many Christians in the US are also very concerned about securing the nations borders. Word of Mexican immigrants infiltrating the economy and "sucking resources" from the federal government has possessed many Christians to take a stand for the border wall to keep those who are coming in illegally out.

This doesn't seem to be right to me. Imagine arguing with the Lord of Glory that you had to keep that Mexican widow and her three children on "her side" of the border because she didn't have the means to possess the credentials to get in "legally."

Jesus flipped tables in the temple because there weren't any gentiles worshipping with the people of God. The temple was established to be the place from which Israel would go out and bring the nations in, but instead, they kept the gift of life with God to themselves, and it brought the Son of Man to the point of flipped tables and slinging whips.

Now be careful. I know what you're thinking...

"yOu juSt iMpLied tHat aMeRiCa rEpResEntS tHe TemPle!"

I did not imply that America represents the Temple. This is exactly my point. You and the community of God's people are the temple, and that community has no borders.

The pious in Israel were proud that they weren't filthy gentiles who didn't have the privilege of worshipping the Lord in His temple, and Jesus went ballistic because of their failure to share the gift of love and life with those very gentiles.

I suppose the bottom line is this:

Christians in America would do well to learn that they have no allegiance to America, its borders, or its policies. The people of God are the temple, and no one is excluded from love and life with God--illegal immigrant or otherwise.

There are no illegals at God's table - only family.
