I completed a 4-day intensive on the work of therapy and confronting your story with The Allender Center in Seattle this past weekend. More specifically, this event was centered around confronting stories of harm or trauma from childhood memories (4yrs - 18yrs). It was interesting, stimulating, eye-opening, challenging, and energizing.

During a session with Dr. Dan Allender, and thinking of my peers in our cohort, I wrote this poem as we entered into a weekend of reflection on our younger selves and trauma of varying degrees. That work was hard work, but it was hard work worth doing.

Tension in the Dance

There's a tension in the dance...

Changing; same-ing

Shaping; plaining

Hoping; waining

Escaping; staying

Framing; breaking

Shaking; waiting

Facing; faking

Waking; dying

...and a dance in the tension.

Same-ing; changing

Shaping; plaining

Waining; hoping

Staying; escaping

Breaking; framing

Waiting; shaking

Faking; facing

Dying; WAKING
